The Wolf and the Shepherd
A shepherd was tending his sheep while a wolf was prowling among them. The wolf did not seem to want to take any of them. And after a few days, the shepherd trusted the wolf that he would leave them alone. So he went out. But when he got back, the wolf had killed a great number of his sheep.
Moral: Once a wolf, always a wolf. Don’t trust anyone who’s done something bad before.
The Cat, the Cock and the Young Mouse
A young mouse was looking out to see what there was out there in the world. And when he got back he told his Mama about his adventures. He said, “When I goed out to see what there was I saw two creatures. One was very timid looking, but the other looked like a huge monster with a pointed mouth and raw meat on its head, and it looked like it wanted to eat me. But the other had thick fur and shiny eyes and was purring.” His mother said, “The monster that you saw was only a cock, and he would do no harm to us; but the other has claws and sharp teeth, and would eat us, and he is a cat.”
Moral: Do not judge people by their appearances.
