And when you’re in a Slump, you’re not in for much fun. Un-slumping yourself is not easily done. from Oh, the Places You’ll Go! by Dr. Seuss

This is what we’ve been doing lately. T has started counseling once a week. He has had three visits so far. It seems like things will be getting worse before they get better. All his concentration/self-esteem/self-control, etc. has gone out the window. School has been going on, but the pace is slow.
Â
Well, it seems slow, but in reality we are still on track. We’re in Week 6 of Year 2. We’ve completed all of the readings. We narrate most of the time. Most narrations are even getting written down. Also, T has been reading many of the books to himself. I read Pilgrim’s Progress, The Little Duke, The Bible, Parables from Nature, and Shakespeare aloud. He reads The Burgess Animal Book, Understood Betsy, Marco Polo, An Island Story, This Country of Ours, and A Child’s History of the World. In addition, he has been completing his Greek and copywork without much fuss. We read Science together, though we have completed only one activity out of three so far. It would help if I went to the store and bought several activities worth of supplies so I don’t have that excuse for not doing the activities. He seems to like the text, though. We’re using Real Science 4 Kids, Chemistry Pre-Level 1.
Â
Math seems to do him in, though. He moans and groans. He knows how to do the work, as shown by his perfect scores. But it takes him an hour and a half or more to complete two pages. If I don’t stand right next to him and keep him on track, he’ll neglect to even start the page. For the last two days, I’ve only had him do the odds or the evens, and this has helped a little. At least he finshes and I can give him credit for the page. I guess we’ll try again tomorrow.

I want to be very careful about not turning this blog into a medium for complaining. However, things are not going as I had envisioned. The printer is futzing and my menu planning is non-existent, so there is stress about that. Tomorrow I tweak, tweak, tweak – and plan the menus and clean the fridge and go to the store.
